Innervation options for gracilis free muscle transfer in facial reanimation

نویسندگان

چکیده

Gracilis free muscle transfer (GFMT) is considered the gold standard in dynamic smile reanimation patients with long-standing facial paralysis. There are multiple motor nerves head and neck that can be used to provide innervation GFMT, either alone or combination. In this article, we review literature about these donor nerve options discuss their advantages disadvantages terms of excursion, spontaneity, reliability, timing. Furthermore, use sources dually-innervated GFMT areas for future investigation.

Facial Reanimation by Masseteric Muscle-Mandibular Periosteum Transfer

Permanent facial paralysis is a catastrophic event for involved patients. In long lasting paralysis with severe facial muscles atrophy, masseter muscle transfer is a very good choice. But its greatest problem is postoperative elongation of flap and gradual diminishing of early results and loss of symmetry. This article advocate a new modification for resolving this problem with concomitant el...

Facial reanimation surgery with micro-vascular gracilis free flap for unilateral facial palsy.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Micro-neurovascular free muscle flap transfer is currently the procedure of choice for long-standing facial paralysis. We present a case series of patients treated with gracilis muscle free flap with motor innervation by the masseteric nerve. We discuss the surgical technique and quantify the movement granted by the muscle, the improvement in quality of life and aest...

Comparison of one-stage free gracilis muscle flap with two-stage method in chronic facial palsy

Abstract Background: Rehabilitation of facial paralysis is one of the greatest challenges faced by reconstructive surgeons today. The traditional method for treatment of patients with facial palsy is the two-stage free gracilis flap which has a long latency period of between the two stages of surgery. Methods: In this paper, we prospectively compared the results of the one-stage gracilis flap ...

Single-stage dynamic reanimation of the smile in irreversible facial paralysis by free functional muscle transfer.

Unilateral facial paralysis is a common disease that is associated with significant functional, aesthetic and psychological issues. Though idiopathic facial paralysis (Bell's palsy) is the most common diagnosis, patients can also present with a history of physical trauma, infectious disease, tumor, or iatrogenic facial paralysis. Early repair within one year of injury can be achieved by direct ...
